3 Quick Thoughts: On Setbacks, Happiness and Comparison.
December 16, 2025 – Caffeine Tuesdays
Every Tuesday, I pour a shot of clarity into your day. I call them Caffeine Tuesdays. 3 ideas, 3 insights, 3 quick thoughts. And this is for you.
Resilience isn’t built when life is easy; it’s revealed when life is hard. Problems don’t define you; your response does. Setbacks are inevitable, but they are always temporary. They don’t appear to stop you; they appear to teach you lessons that comfort never could.
If you want to be happy, stop chasing happiness. Happiness is a byproduct of doing things that are challenging, meaningful, and worthwhile. The pursuit of happiness often leads to frustration, but the pursuit of purpose creates joy as a side effect. Focus on building a life filled with effort, meaning, and passion; happiness will soon follow.
Never compare yourself to anyone but your past self. Happiness doesn’t come from measuring against others; it comes from progress that matters to you. Instead of wishing for what someone else has, ask: What step today moves me closer to my own joy? By shifting the focus from envy to challenge, you build a practice of self-comparison that fuels growth, not frustration. Over time, your happiness becomes less about what others achieve and more about how far you’ve come.
See you on Tuesday!
